Tower Open Day

The bell towers at Ashley, Cottingham, Stoke Albany and Weston by Welland were among 24 local towers open on 16 May for visiting ringers to come and grab a few towers.

More than 60 ringers (and one dog!) came along from as far afield as Dunblane, Halifax, Devon and Exeter, and the event raised an amazing £1143.49 for the Stoke Albany Bell Renovation Fund.

There were at least 10 people who managed to visit all 24 towers and Ashley proved the most popular, with 63 visitors. One lady revealed that she had clocked up an amazing 6,000 towers and was just grabbing a couple of towers where she’d not rung before.

A massive thanks to Helen Churchman, Siobhan Lovell and Hannah Conlon from the Welland Valley Bellringing Team, who organised the event, and to all the bellringers who helped out as stewards at the churches on the day.
