On 15 September 2026, work started on the renovation of the six bells at St Botolph’s Church, Stoke Albany, in a bid to preserve the centuries-old tradition of bellringing at this historic parish church, which dates back to the late 13th Century.
Last overhauled in 1888, the bells have become increasingly difficult to ring, such that even experienced ringers now avoid ringing at Stoke, and younger ringers and learners are unable to train at the tower at all.
In less than a year, the Stoke Albany Bell Renovation Project, has raised the £60,000 needed to get the bells renovated.
